WEST FELICIANA PARISH, LA (WAFB) –

There will be a drive-thru and drop off event for all unused and expired prescriptions in West Feliciana.

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office in collaboration the parish’s Drug and Alcohol Awareness Council will have a “Prescription Drug Take Back Day” on April 29.

As spring cleaning winds down, WFPSO encourages residents to go through their medicine cabinets for expired and unused prescription drugs and come to the drug drop off.

All you have to do is drive thru and drop off unused and expired medications.

Erin Foster with WFPSO says medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse.

“The frequency of prescription drug abuse and accidental poisonings and overdoses is steadily on the rise,” Foster says. “Studies show that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often right from the home medicine cabinet.”

WFPSO also says flushing these drugs down the toilet or throwing them away are both potential safety and health hazards.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

The location of the drug drop off bin will be at the shopping center located at the intersection of Hwy 61 and Hwy 10 from 8 a.m. until noon on April 29.
